About Emily

Hi, I'm Emily! I'm 22, based in Manchester, and a recent Philosophy graduate with a lifelong love of English Literature. I studied both subjects side by side for the first two years of my degree, and literature has stayed close to my heart ever since.

Having recently been through GCSE and A Level English Literature myself, I understand both the curriculum and the pressure that comes with it. I achieved a grade 9 at GCSE, an A* at A Level, and 100% on my coursework, so I know exactly what the exam boards are looking for and how to help you get there.

Alongside my studies, I've worked in a range of educational environments with children and young people of different ages. This has taught me how to adapt my teaching style to suit each individual student, some learners thrive on structure and clear frameworks, while others need space to explore ideas out loud before anything clicks. I pay close attention to what works for you and shape our lessons accordingly.

Above all, I aim to be a warm, patient, and attentive tutor, committed to helping you feel confident not just in your grades, but in your own voice as a reader and writer.
I can't wait to hear from you!

Hi! I'm so glad you've found your way here. My lessons are built entirely around you and your specific exam board, whether that's AQA, Edexcel, OCR, or WJEC, we'll work directly from the texts, poems, and assessment objectives you're being marked on, so every session feeds straight back into your coursework and exams.

We'll start with a chat about where you are in the curriculum, which texts you're studying, and where you're feeling stuck. From there, I'll tailor lessons around exactly what you need: close reading of your set texts, unpicking the unseen poetry or prose sections, tackling comparative essays, or drilling into the specific assessment objectives (AO1 through AO5) that examiners are actually looking for.

English Literature really comes alive through conversation, and some of my favourite moments as a student were when a text I'd found impenetrable suddenly opened up. That's what I want to do for you, we'll read closely together, talk through what the writer is up to, and build the confidence to make arguments that feel genuinely yours while still ticking every box the mark scheme demands.

My background in Philosophy alongside Literature means I love digging into the ideas beneath the text, which is often where the top-band marks live at A Level, examiners reward original, well-supported interpretations, and that's exactly where we'll aim.

Lessons are 50 minutes to an hour, and I work with GCSE and A Level students (roughly ages 14–18). I studied English Literature at GCSE (grade 9) and A Level (A*, with 100% on my coursework) before going on to the University of Edinburgh.

Above all, I want lessons to feel like a friendly space where you can think out loud, ask the "silly" questions, and actually enjoy the texts you're studying, all while steadily building the skills and knowledge your exam board is looking for. Do reach out, I'd love to help. :)
