About Kate

Hi, I'm Kate! I'm currently completing my degree in Education, majoring in English and Mathematics, with the goal of becoming a qualified teacher. Tutoring is something I'm genuinely passionate about; I love helping students move from confusion to confidence, whether that's untangling a tricky maths problem or finding the right words for an essay.

Although I'm still completing my formal qualification, my coursework has given me a solid grounding in how students learn and how to explain concepts clearly, patiently, and in different ways until something clicks. I currently tutor Mandarin Chinese to students of all ages and levels, as I'm passionate about sharing my language and culture. I also tutored English to younger grades during high school and was part of the AP English programme, achieving distinctions across all English components. In addition, I ranked among the top 20 students nationally in the English Olympiad, out of over 5,500 participants.

What you can expect from me is reliability, patience, and genuine care about your progress. I take the time to understand where a student is struggling before jumping into solutions, and I always encourage questions; there's no such thing as a "silly" one in my lessons. My aim is not just to help you pass a test, but to build real understanding that lasts.

About the lesson

As an education major specialising in English, I bring a structured, yet approachable teaching style shaped by real coursework in how students learn best. My goal isn't just to help you get through homework or exams, but to build genuine understanding and confidence in the subject whether that means finally "getting" algebra or writing an essay you're proud of.

I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my approach rather than using a one-size-fits-all method. Lessons combine clear explanations, plenty of practice, and real-world examples that make abstract concepts click. I focus on building a strong foundation first, then layering on more advanced skills, so students aren't just memorising and they're actually understanding.

I teach in English as well as Mandarin to help accommodate students as best as possible.

Each session starts with a quick check-in on what's been covered in class or where the student is struggling, followed by focused work on those specific gaps. I mix explanation with hands-on practice, ask lots of questions to check understanding, and always leave time for the student to ask their own. Lessons are relaxed but focused.

I work with primary, high school as well as students who need support in English (grammar, essay writing, reading comprehension, exam prep). My lessons suit students who are struggling and need extra support, as well as those who are doing fine but want to build stronger skills or aim for higher marks.
