About Joe

I am a teacher with 20+ years of experience, and have taught hundreds of students who are now professionals working on video games, feature films, apps, and web-development. I am highly knowledgeable and a generalist in computer graphics and programming.

My students are employed at most major of the worlds leading game, vfx, and animation studios. Virtually every triple-A video game, and major motion picture, features work by at least one artist who was once a student of mine. About the lesson

When teaching individually my style involves:
- adapting to the needs of the individual
- focus on problem solving, self directed research
- very casual, personal, and extremely patient
- practical solutions and strategies for optimized workflow
- understanding or theory and reasoning behind how things work and why methods are used
- deep dives into larger conceptual elements when useful (such as the history visual effects of production, or history of video game graphics and rendering)

Deadly! I was actually very surprised by my tutoring sess with Joe. You're familiar with the expression, "if something seems too good to be true, then it probably is." (No doubting Thomas allowed here, folks.) I guarantee 100% this will not be the case from a tutoring session with this individual. I googled him after I read his ad. I usually do that first before attempting a booking, just to try and get a feel if the tutor and I will be a good fit. When I first saw his mile long list of accolades, I thought this couldn't be the same guy. This has to be a catfish account here on superprof. Check it out, don't take my word for it; you'll see what I mean. But, nope. We'll be smashing through every single misconception you might have had after seeing his ad here. If you thought maybe this account isn't real? Well, Joe was probably sainted in another life. That would be the best explanation for your luck in discovering him. The man has a mind like a steel trap. Perhaps computer genius would be a better descriptive. He's knowledgeable, highly intelligent; he listens to your tech challenges and then quickly assesses exactly what areas you need to be taught first of those. Joe has the deliverables, and best yet, he can not only transfer these methodologies to you in a sound, clear way that you will retain, but the man has endless patience and huge generosity of spirit!! Thank you, Joe!!! Another 6-star rating!

Angelica was great to work with. She needed some help with fundamentals of file management and Photoshop for photography, and I provided about 4 hours of assistance. She seemed quite happy by the end of it.

Deadly! Joe did a very good job helping me out with the subjects that I had been struggling with. He offered detailed criticism on what had been done incorrectly, and detailed guides on how to improve. Definitely a very good tutor overall.

Jacob was polite easy to work with. I helped him with various concepts related to 3D modeling and texturing, mostly with software such as 3dsmax and Substance Painter. Everything went smoothly, and I'd be happy to work with him again.

Although superprof.ca forced me to enter a non-zero lesson price, all lessons are currently free.

For the time being, as of July 2019, my lessons are offered free of change, and I expect they will remain free for the next few months at least. Sometimes my students make a donation to a charity on my behalf, but this is *not* necessary. Please do not let a lack of funds prevent you from asking me for help.

I am particularly interested in teaching any aspiring technical artists who are interested in scripting and programming for video games and computer graphics.

I currently teach students all over the world, although I only speak English. I tend to be available fairly odd hours.
