About Allison

As a tutor, my approach is student-centered and tailored to meet the diverse needs of middle school learners, particularly those in grades 6–8 who receive Special Education or English Learner services. I use differentiated instruction, scaffolding, and modeling to make complex tasks manageable, while actively engaging students through discussion, hands-on practice, and formative assessments. A typical lesson follows a consistent structure: a warm-up to review prior knowledge, a mini-lesson with guided instruction, supported practice, independent application, and a brief wrap-up or exit slip. What sets me apart is my dual expertise in ELA and Special Education, my use of visual and interactive tools, and my strong focus on building relationships and promoting a growth mindset. I specialize in helping students who read below grade level, struggle with writing organization, or need extra support in grammar, reading comprehension, or essay writing. In addition to my academic support, I bring years of experience as a gymnastics coach, where I’ve helped students build confidence, discipline, and physical literacy—skills that often translate into stronger focus and resilience in the classroom. This unique blend of academic and athletic mentoring allows me to support the whole child, both mentally and physically.
