About Cynthia

I am Cynthia Zingale and was born in Maryland, and now live in Michigan.

I have a B.A. In English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, and a Masters in Elementary education from George Washington University.

I also have years of experience working as a full time teacher, as well as a tutor and after care program coordinator.

I recently added published children's author to my accomplishments. I published the book "Feelings" in 2024, which is aimed at middle grade readers.

About the lesson

During my first tutoring session I like to begin by assessing a student’s reading level using a running record diagnostic test based on current reading assessment standards. Then, I will formulate lesson plans based on these results, which includes a complete language arts block during each of my sessions.

Every session will include a lesson on grammatical concepts presented through reading a short leveled book and concluding with a comprehension assessment about the book to assess mastery of these new concepts. Then the student and I will determine together which concepts they have mastered, and which we will revisit and practice further in future sessions.

Above all else, I want to foster a love of reading in my students! I am an avid reader, and would love nothing more than for my students to feel the same way. I incorporate the use of a document camera during my sessions. Therefore, I am able to read physical books of my own, and ones that I have gotten from the library during each session. Also, students are able to read these books to me.

At the end of each session, I encourage students to let me know if there is a book that they would like for me to get for them from the library that we can read together! A love of reading is truly fostered when a child learns what genre of books they are interested in! Please feel free to message me for tutoring inquiries. Looking forward to connecting soon!
