About Andrew
As a future academic theologian (DPhil, Oxon, 2030), I’ve spent years immersed in these subjects — and I still think they’re the best thing you can study. Philosophy, theology, ethics — they’re the playground of the human mind. They ask the biggest questions and connect to everything else: literature, science, politics, history, and real life. But here’s the thing: I don’t just love studying these subjects — I love helping others discover how rich, exciting, and rewarding they can be too. My approach to tutoring brings that passion into every session. I’m here to help you not only understand the content, but enjoy it, own it, and feel confident discussing and writing about it at a high level. Whether you're aiming for top grades, university entrance, or just want to actually get this stuff — I’ll get you there, with energy, clarity, and a deep love for the subject that’s genuinely contagious.

I began tutoring feeling unsure about certain topics and lacking confidence in how to approach exam questions. From the first session, he brought real clarity and structure to my learning. He explains complex ideas in a way that’s both accessible and thought-provoking, and his enthusiasm for the subject is genuinely infectious.
Each lesson was carefully planned around my needs, with a clear focus on building understanding, sharpening essay technique, and developing confidence. He encouraged discussion, challenged me to think more deeply, and made even the hardest parts of the subject feel manageable. He is so knowledgeable, but makes it all so clear to understand, and so fun.
Thanks to his support, I achieved an A* — but more than that, I came to really love the subject, and have learnt how to think like an academic. I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone serious about doing well and wanting to actually enjoy the process.Mr. Birch has proven to be an exceptionally knowledgeable and approachable Religious Studies tutor. His deep understanding of the subject matter, from the key theological arguments to the complexities of various religious beliefs, has allowed me to have a thorough knowledge of the subject. He consistently encourages my critical thinking and engages me in meaningful discussions that aid me in imbedding knowledge into memory. Mr Birch’s teaching style is collaborative and open, making it easy for me to actively engage and form a strong interest in each topic. Furthermore, he is always open to questions and provides valuable feedback that has helped me improve my analytical skills and exam technique. Overall, Mr. Birch has created a positive and supportive learning environment. His passion for the subject has inspired me to deepen my interest in Religious Studies and was a huge contributing factor in my decision to study Theology at University.
