About Quirino

Space engineer from Rome living in New Zealand, I tutored high school students (math and physics) during my studies and then taught conversational English in South Korea. I have been teaching Italian for two years now and all of my students are happy about their results. I always try to be empathetic, fun, patient and kind.

About the lesson

The general approach would be to actively involve the students through practical examples or everyday conversations and guide them through the understanding of a more general grammar structure that is behind. The learning process is active.

The first lesson will partly be used to assess the level of the student and what he/she wants to achieve. My tutoring approach will depend on that, and on his/her age.

Beginner:

Ready to order food, ask for and understand directions, introduce yourself, understand numbers and answer basic questions about a limited amount of topics.

- Examples and situations of everyday life. Oral and written dialogues
- Key words will be highlighted, explained and translated, and then repeated several times (memorization and pronunciation)
- Grammar used in the dialogue will be analysed and studied
- Practice the knowledge acquired, via an easy conversation
- Homework: daily reading of the dialogues

Intermediate:

Ready to deal with most situations while travelling, describe experiences or events and give explanations for opinions and plans.
Some lessons will be focused more on grammar, some others on vocabulary.

- Learning grammar through practical exercises
- Vocabulary sheets relating to various subjects plus written and oral dialogues
- Analysing and commenting newspapers, books, movies in terms of both grammar and vocabulary.
- Written and oral comprehension exercises
- Writing a small text about any subject followed by correction and analysis of mistakes.
- Conversations to practice newly learned vocabulary and grammar
- Homework: daily reading of the vocabulary sheets

Advanced: ready to read, understand and talk about most topics, good knowledge of grammar and correct use of vocabulary.

- Review of the entire grammar and important vocabulary
- Articulate conversations
- Elaborate writing
- Comments and analysis of texts, books, press articles, movies, magazines etc
- Advanced exercises of written and oral comprehension and expressions

PS. Should you want to practice for a possible exam, the above teaching methodology can be adapted based on what will be required.
