For the past five years I have been teaching IGCSE English as a second language and IGCSE Latin in a secondary school in Italy. Previously, I taught English for Academic purposes and English as a foreign language. Excellent success rate.

I believe in listening to students, identifying their strengths and making the syllabus work for them. Building confidence is fundamental, as is having a strong lesson plan. A little humour never fails.I have a wealth experience in helping young people obtain their academic objectives. As a teacher this means a thorough study of the syllabus (GCSE, A level -each board is different) or assignment (essay, report, article) and attentive listening to the student in order to identify strategies for moving forward.In practical terms this could be working on sentence structure, moving to paragraph building (focusing on topic sentences and support, for example), then moving to putting a text together. At the same time use of linking words, adverbs, adjectives formal/informal language will be studied. My approach is very student based: I ask the questions that make students think and with their answers they build their confidence.
