About Tom
Hi, I’m Tom. I’m an English Literature and Creative Writing graduate from the University of Warwick, where I also completed a first-class MA in Critical & Cultural Theory. I’m a writer, mentor, and experienced academic supporter who loves helping students gain confidence with language, reading, and ideas. I’m not a ‘strict’ tutor; I’m a calm, warm, genuinely encouraging person who knows how intimidating English can feel. My goal is simple: to make the subject click, and to help you actually enjoy it. I specialise in: GCSE English Language & Literature; A-Level English Literature; Essay planning & writing skills; Close reading, analysis, and exam technique; University humanities support (structure, argument, theory); Creative writing mentoring (poetry, prose, inspiration, confidence). I’m a writer and tutor with a BA in English Literature & Creative Writing and a First-Class MA in Critical & Cultural Theory from the University of Warwick. I specialise in helping students develop clarity, imagination, and confidence in their writing — whether you’re preparing for GCSE or A-level exams, university assignments, personal projects, or simply wanting to explore your creative voice. My teaching style is warm, patient, and collaborative. I guide students through the fundamentals of strong writing: imagery, structure, rhythm, character, argument, and voice. In each session, we work side by side on your ideas, shaping them into pieces that feel both expressive and polished. I encourage experimentation and curiosity, while offering clear, constructive feedback you can immediately apply. I particularly enjoy supporting students who feel stuck, anxious, or unsure where to begin. My goal is always the same: to help you write with greater freedom, skill, and confidence.
