About Rachel

I have a Bachelor's degree in linguistics from the University of Alberta which included studies in language acquisition and phonology. Additionally, I have personal experience learning and becoming fluent in a second language as an adult, and I am very familiar with the challenges involved in that process.
In my free time, I volunteer as an English Language Learning tutor for newcomers to my community.

About the lesson

My teaching method focuses on the different building blocks that make up language, from the individual speech sounds and how they work together, to the different parts we use to make words and how they are combined to make sentences.
I believe language students learn best in non-judgmental environments, where they feel free to try out new things that they've learned, make mistakes, and then learn from those mistakes.

Juliet has a great willingness to tackle new words and tasks and a good understanding of the text she reads. She asks thoughtful questions about the material, and her effort is already paying off in terms of spelling.
