About Pia
Hi,
I am Pia Rodriguez, a Masters in International Management student at Esade, Barcelona. I recently completed my Bachelors in Biomedical Science at Amsterdam University College. I am a native Spanish speaker, as I was born and raised in Chile. I learnt English in my 20’s and because of this, I understand the complexity and challenges involved in learning a new language. I know it is hard, but EVERYONE CAN DO IT! And I am here to help :). After teaching myself English, I worked as a Spanish-English translator for a mining company in Chile. I then moved to Australia, where I learnt academic-level English before beginning my Bachelor’s Degree in Amsterdam.There, I tutored Spanish for three years to fellow students at my university and then expanded to the rest of Amsterdam via Superprof. Now that I have moved to Barcelona, I’d like to continue my tutoring with Superprof Spain, while keeping a few students from Amsterdam that I teach via webcam. The latter has been highly successful among tutees so far.

I believe that a combination of structure and flexibility towards students’ needs is key to success. Firstly, I like to assess your level and identify what your goals are. We can have a 30 minute coffee meet up, or online, for free. Here, we set goals and establish your level of understanding. I will then send you some materials and exercises by email to assess your reading comprehension level. During the second session, we can assess more accurately and then work together towards your goal. For instance; if you want to go to Spain for holidays and be able to survive comfortably, then we focus on speaking areas and casual conversation. If you want to go on exchange to a Spanish-speaking university, we take a much more focused academic approach. I provide a lot of material tailored to your strengths and weaknesses - especially for beginners - and I give out homework online via google docs and I mark it for our next lesson so that we are as productive as possible. Students are able to reach me with questions at any time of day as well via WhatsApp or email. Neither this nor the homework material costs extra – it is included! My teaching methodology adapts to each student, because people learn at different paces and struggle with different things, such as grammar, sentence structure or conversation. Having learnt advanced English and basic Dutch, I gained a better understanding of the learning process and thus I teach from a student’s perspective. Just remember not to give up and I'll be there along the way!
