About Shelby
I am an ESL teacher, Traditional Chinese Medicine/Ayurveda student, and writer. I began teaching ESL in Japan six years ago and continue with freelance lessons today. I have taught business English, beauty English, listening comprehension, writing, conversation, and whatever else my students desire to learn. My students have seen much success in our lessons together; they tend to feel more confident speaking English, which leads to many positive outcomes. One of my students has just become an English teacher herself after taking lessons with me for six years!

My teaching method is based on one idea: a confident student is a successful student. To be confident, a person must feel comfortable and welcomed. My job as a teacher is to help each student feel safe and comfortable in their verbal expression. I do this by providing a casual environment, no matter the topic. I have much experience teaching all varieties of English to adults. I have also taught teens and children. So long as a student wants to learn, we can have a wonderful class together!
