About Ian
I am a second year PhD student at UNC Chapel Hill with a specialization in 20th century American literature. I also have a BA from Ithaca College which I received in 2019. Currently, I teach ENGL 105, an academic writing course, at UNC Chapel Hill. My students are largely college freshman.

I feel most comfortable teaching college and high school students, as my pedagogical training and experience relates to these age groups. If I am teaching writing, I try to take what is known as a "process approach," meaning that I focus on writing as a process. This means paying close attention to how to construct thesis statements, introductions, and conclusions. Also, it means drafting and redrafting a single piece of writing. If I am teaching literature, I try to balance letting students explore a text in whatever manner they choose, while still providing important historical contexts and interpretations.
