About Shiro

I am Shiro Moktan and I have been an English Teacher for over 25 years.
I would like to teach English online to students who need help to prepare for the ICSE and CBSE courses of India. I also teach students following the English syllabus of the Cambridge University GCE and A Levels. I was the founder and Principal for 19 years of a school which followed the Cambridge University Syllabus. I also taught General English to the A level classes. I can proudly say my students have all never got below a A in their exams considering that none of them were native English speakers.
I teach creative writing to students of any level.
I have taught countless students whose native language is not English since the beginning of my teaching career.
I am an English Honours graduate.
My aim is to bring my students to a level where English ...whether speaking or writing..will never be a problem and in fact excel in it.
After so many years of teaching experience I have developed my own methods for ensuring that my students love the English Language. My main technique is that I teach students to be able to think for themselves instead of being confined to just their text books.
I encourage my students to read and increase their vocabulary but most importantly to treat each student as an individual with their own skills or limitations. In doing this I make it a point to listen to them.
I live in Nepal but I was born and educated in India by Irish nuns. I taught in India and Nepal. Thus I am very closely acquainted with teaching English, be it to pass examinations or just to learn English for improve themselves in their jobs or in society. I have taught English to housewives, Sherpa guides who go on treks, hotel trainees and many others.
I would be very happy to make my students, of any level or requirement, to love the English Language the same way as I do.

About the lesson

My method of teaching English is to first understand the needs of the students either individually or as a group. If the requirement is examination based then I follow the syllabus , making sure that comprehension is firstly approached. To perfect the language is my goal.
