About Emily
I am an American student studying French culture who has experience coaching students on academic papers, resumes, cover letters, and conversational English for two years. My students have been accepted into top graduate programs and competitive international internships. However, my students have also achieved personal goals of being more comfortable speaking English around their peers or reaching their desired grades for their academic papers.
My own academic background is interdisciplinary; I have a dual Bachelor's degree in Russian and neuroscience. I worked as a teaching assistant for the introductory biology laboratories and as a grammar tutor for first-year Russian students. Additionally, I held an internship as an English academic proofreader for the Moscow State University Faculty of Journalism and worked primarily to prepare papers for their international journal, World of Media.
I have obtained a Master's degree in the history and philosophy of art while studying in both the UK and France, and during this degree, I mentored fellow international students for whom English was their second language. I worked with them primarily to polish their academic papers, their CV, their cover letters, and their class participation. Watching them become more confident and achieve their English goals was one of the most rewarding experiences.

Like you (hopefully), I share a love of learning new languages. My teaching is targeted at university students, professionals, and adults with an intermediate or advanced level of English who either want to improve their English for formal settings or who want to improve their conversational English. My approach begins with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere since I believe more structured levels of English, such as business and academic English, improve when students feel comfortable in a conversational setting. We will target our meetings to fit your specific goals and interests, and we will discover both your areas of strength and areas that could use improvement. My approach relies on goal-setting, and I expect students to be willing to practice applying new English skills outside of our meetings.
