About Siobhan

Hello, I'm Siobhan. I in my third year of a PhD in Law, Criminology and Sociology. I also have a Masters in Forensic Psychology
As part of my PhD I have taught Masters (MSc Forensic Psychology) and Undergraduate students (Criminology). I have started (but still to finish) my InSTIL training, the teaching course provided by the university for those teaching at degree level.
I have been a tutor for the Brilliant Club since the early days of my PhD, this have involved me teaching seminars to small groups of selected students over a 7 week period. I have successfully completed 5 placements within different schools, teaching different age groups for the Brilliant club and am currently on my sixth. My topics of focus have all been similar to my specialist subjects listed above. The Brilliant club requires good quality tutoring and therefore I have to attend training weekends with them twice a year.
Along side the teaching aspects of my PhD, I have had to regularly present (in conference, to my school or to other PhD students), which has required me to develop skills in how to better communicate intricate information in a concise manner. My written skills are to a high quality and have required me to be able to effectively write essays. I am also a second supervisor to two Masters students, which has required me to have great organisational and reflective skills.

My career background has taken a similar focus to my academic background.
I have previously worked as a assistant psychologist working in a mental health hospital and most of my work experience previous to this has been within the field of forensic mental health. Many of my positions have included running groups and doing one-to-one work with patients, therefore teaching and communication are skills I have had to develop.

I am friendly and enthusiastic, with a love for psychology, criminology and sociology which I hope I can pass onto my students.
