About Katie

Hello! I'm Katie, an English teacher from London.

I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2013 with a 1st class BA in English and since then I have been teaching English to secondary-age students. I completed my PGCE in 2014 and a part-time Masters in Education in 2016, also from Cambridge. During my time at university I worked as part of the Access team, CAMbassadors, and since graduating I have continued to support students from all backgrounds to apply to Cambridge, through alumni mentoring schemes and personal statement support in school.

I have taught English in mainstream schools for six years, taking on various leadership roles within my department, and also spent a year teaching English in a hospital school, working closely in one-to-one and small group settings with secondary students who had a wide range of medical, social, physical and special educational needs, teaching KS3, GCSE, A Level, IB and functional skills.

In 2018 and 2019, I marked English Language GCSE Paper 1 for AQA and found the experience extremely helpful for enriching my understanding of the specification.

My teaching style is nurturing and challenging, encouraging students to expect the best of themselves and others. I love questions - no question is stupid! - and always aim to help students find English as exciting, entertaining and stimulating as I do!
