About Wieslawa

I’ve been teaching Polish as a foreign language for the past ten years in the UK. I’m a teacher with MA, QTS, and a tutor with a long experience of teaching children, youth and adults online via Skype and Zoom. I worked as a Polish teacher in The Polish School in England as well. At the moment, I offer online Polish classes for travel purposes as well as to prepare for exams and for business matters. Polish is a beautiful language and if you wait and wonder about starting to learn – do not wait any more. I also provide professional resources, support after lessons as well as quick responses to your questions. I am based in North Leeds. Do not hesitate to contact me. You’ll get the language skills from Polish conversation, reading and writing. Boost your ability and confidence through learning with me.

About the lesson

I’m able to teach all group of abilities (A1-C2) and all ages. Even if you cannot speak, read or write in Polish, you will be able to do it very quickly. I always care about suitable methods tailored to your skills, ability of language learning. I'm a very patient, reliable and friendly person so any age is welcome: children, youth and adults. I'm very keen to teach you such a beautiful language that Polish is.

Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
I had two Polish language teachers who made me fall in love with this language's melody, spelling and grammar.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
It is certainly Maria Skłodowska-Curie, who was a Polish scientist. For years I lived on the street named Maria Skłodowska-Curie and went to the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Primary School.

The next figure is Fryderyk Chopin, who was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic period.

From fictional characters, my favorites are "Bolek i Lolek" and "Reksio", fairytales for children.
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?
I love all the softenings, digraphs and all spelling rules and grammar of the Polish language. I like to listen to people who speak Polish because this language rustles like autumn leaves. My favorite phrase is "filiżanka herbaty" (a cup of tea).
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
I have Polish roots and I can't imagine stopping speaking and thinking in Polish. My ancestors gave me this value and I respect it with all my being.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
From the experience of being a Polish language teacher, I can say that consonant groups (consonant clusters) are quite difficult for language learners. Example words with this difficulty: stąd, wkrótce, szczęście. However, in the learning process, self-discipline, consisting in repeating lessons, and phonetic practice helps.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
I once wrote an essay on "To have or to be" and my Polish teacher told me, "Aleksander Kamiński (author) would be proud of you."
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
I have always known that traveling educates. I will always remember my trips to Krakow, Warsaw, Sandomierz, Czorsztyn, Poznań. I learn the fastest by discovering new places and historical monuments of Poland. I enrich my language by listening to professional guides.
What makes you a Superprof in language?
My greatest values in teaching Polish are my students. I know from them that they enjoy learning. I teach with passion and dedication. The progress in learning the language of my students (speaking and understanding) is my greatest success.
