About Evangelia

I’m a London-based freelance curator, art historian, writer, translator, and educator with a PhD in contemporary art and its relationship with modern science.

Over the years, I’ve curated a wide range of exhibitions and art projects, and my writing has appeared in print and online publications, artists’ catalogues, and books. I’m an avid culture lover—passionate about literature, film, and theatre—with a particular interest in posthumanism and science fiction.

For the past five years, I’ve been teaching online courses on modern and contemporary art, with a special focus on women artists and feminist art. My lessons are always tailored to each student’s needs, and I also offer curated course packs for those looking for an introduction to modern and contemporary art, an overview of feminist art, or a first deep dive into the work of women artists.

About the lesson

My classes are mainly for adults who would like to get to know and delve into modern and contemporary art from 1900 to today.

We will talk about movements, theories, famous great artists and works as well as unappreciated and unacknowledged but essential ones. We will focus on the social-political background of each period, science, philosophy and psychoanalysis and their impact on artistic creativity.

We will discuss modernism, structuralism and post-structuralism, abstract, conceptual and minimal art, pop art, performance, fluxus and happenings, feminist and activist art, postmodernism and contemporary movements.

We will examine famous exhibitions, interactions with music, literature and pop culture, globalisation and post-colonialist approaches.
After each course, I will send you a rich interdisciplinary bibliography and filmography that will help deepen in the issues we’ll be discussing.

The main packs for introduction to modern and contemporary art are 5h and 10h. There are also two packs on specific subjects: a 5-lesson pack on women artists and a 5-lesson pack on feminist art and artworks.

Depending on your needs and artistic curiosity, the lessons can be customised on specific subjects, movements, artists and styles.
