About Rachel
Hello! I’m an experienced and passionate English tutor with over 15 years of teaching expertise in English Language and Literature, from GCSE through A Level. I hold a Master’s in Teaching and Learning, am a qualified assessor, and have a SENCO qualification, which enables me to support learners with a wide range of needs, including providing assessments for Access Arrangements. I am dedicated to helping students achieve their full potential through personalised, engaging, and structured lessons that build both confidence and skill. Throughout my career, I have supported students from diverse backgrounds, helping them succeed academically while fostering a genuine love of reading, writing, and language. My lessons are highly structured, personalised, and designed to meet each student’s individual needs. I use a combination of teaching techniques, including interactive discussion, close textual analysis, modelling, scaffolded writing tasks, and exam-style practice to build understanding, confidence, and exam technique. I also integrate retrieval and revision strategies to help students retain knowledge long-term and develop independent learning skills. Typically, lessons are one hour long, but I am happy to adapt the length to suit the student’s needs and goals. Each session begins with a clear objective, followed by a mix of teaching, practice, and feedback, ensuring students consolidate learning and leave the lesson with clear next steps. I have over 15 years’ teaching experience, a Master’s in Teaching and Learning, and am a qualified assessor and SENCO, which enables me to support learners with a wide range of needs, including those requiring Access Arrangements. My background includes teaching English Language and Literature at GCSE and A Level, developing curriculum, and preparing students for public examinations with proven success. My lessons are suitable for students of secondary and post-16 age, including those aiming to improve grades, develop confidence in reading and writing, or preparing for exams. I also provide specialist support for students with additional learning needs, ensuring lessons are inclusive, effective, and tailored to help every student reach their full potential.
