About Izzy

Hi, I’m Izzy, an online English tutor from York with several years of tutoring experience. Having worked as an assistant tutor for seven years, I have developed a strong understanding of how to support students with different learning styles, confidence levels and academic goals.

I teach students aged 6–16 and provide lessons in English Language, English Literature, reading comprehension, creative writing and spoken English confidence. I can also offer Maths support when needed, as I studied A Level Maths and achieved strong GCSE results in both Maths and English.

My lessons are designed to be engaging, supportive and personalised to each student. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable expressing themselves, so I encourage creativity, discussion and independent thinking while still maintaining a structured approach focused on academic progress.

A large part of my teaching focuses on building confidence in reading, writing and speaking English. I especially enjoy helping students who may feel shy, struggle with self-expression or speak English as an additional language. As someone who moved to the UK from an Asian country and adapted quickly to the British education system, I understand the challenges students can face and aim to create a patient and encouraging learning environment.

Alongside confidence-building and academic support, I strive to create a calm, understanding and supportive learning environment for every student. Having studied Psychology at A Level, I understand that every child learns differently and that confidence, emotions and wellbeing can play a big role in education. I am especially patient with students who may struggle with anxiety, low confidence, stress or other emotional challenges, and I aim to make lessons feel safe, encouraging and pressure-free so students can learn comfortably at their own pace.

About the lesson

I’m Izzy, an online English tutor from York with years of tutoring experience working alongside my mum as an assistant tutor. I teach students aged 6–16 and aim to create lessons that are supportive, creative and confidence-building while still helping students achieve strong academic results. I can also provide Maths support when needed, as I studied A Level Maths alongside my GCSEs.

My teaching approach focuses on helping students truly express themselves in English rather than simply memorising answers. I divide my lessons into three key areas: reading and analysis, spoken confidence, and school syllabus support. Students are encouraged to choose books they genuinely enjoy reading, and together we analyse themes, vocabulary, writing techniques and deeper meanings to naturally improve both comprehension and literature skills.

Another important part of my lessons is spoken English confidence. I help students develop fluency and confidence in speaking English without fear or embarrassment, especially students who may be shy or learning English as an additional language. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable sharing their own thoughts and ideas.

The final part of lessons focuses on schoolwork, homework support and exam preparation. I help students strengthen essay writing, reading comprehension, grammar, analytical skills and exam technique to improve their classroom performance and GCSE results.

Lessons are typically 1 hour long and are taught online in a relaxed but structured environment tailored to each student’s learning style and goals. My lessons are suitable for:

Having personally adapted to the UK education system after moving from an Asian country, I understand the challenges students can face learning academic English and building confidence. My goal is always to make students feel capable, motivated and proud of their progress.
