About Kels

My journey into extreme metal vocals started where many singers find themselves: completely blown away by the power and technique of metal vocalists, but unsure how to create those sounds without destroying my voice.
After a year of dedicated, technique-first practice isolating and mastering false cords, I joined a heavy metal band as lead vocalist two years ago. Performing and rehearsing regularly taught me the reality of harsh vocals: power doesn't come from pushing harder, it comes from correct mechanics, relaxed airflow, and vocal longevity.
I’m teaching because I love this music and know firsthand how frustrating it can be to figure out harsh vocals on your own through trial and error. My goal is to save you the vocal strain, give you clear and repeatable cues, and help you unlock confident, crushing false cords so you can front a band or record the tracks you’ve always wanted to make.

About the lesson

1. Assessment & Goals: We start by discussing your target style and favourite bands, checking your vocal health history, and evaluating your natural breath support.

2. Tension Release & Warm-Ups: We eliminate neck and jaw tension, dial in diaphragmatic breath support, and use low-impact warm ups (lip trills, straw drills) to prep your voice without fatigue.

3. False Cord Isolation: You’ll learn how to engage the vestibular folds (false cords) safely using intuitive triggers like relaxed sighs keeping your true vocal cords completely relaxed.

4. Tone Shaping & Repertoire Practice: We shape your tone (low gutturals to cutting mids) using mouth and tongue placement, practise enunciating real lyrics over backing tracks, and master clean-to-harsh transitions.
