About Avi

My name is Avihurik Vargas Giraldo and I am a Colombian-born educator. Living and working in Colombia, Malaysia, and the Netherlands, I have experienced first-hand the benefits of multicultural education.
Learning languages will always be a fantastic way to open doors for yourself and get to know the world around you. That is why I commit myself as a language educator, to inspire a positive and often personalised experience and teach others the richness of Hispanic cultures and the connections you can make by speaking Spanish.

About the lesson

I am keen to help nurture and support my students, specifically by considering how their learning takes shape based on their different strengths and abilities. In my practice, I like to prioritise collaborative learning activities that challenge the students, to build resilience and self-advocacy (age appropriate levels).
It is very significant to build rapport in learning; to understand how education is not an explicitly academic venture, but an emotional, interpersonal one as well. In particular, I have found that building a strong partnership with the student’s parents is also crucial in the academic development of the student, given that having a team (or system of support) at home will definitely contribute to the student’s overall success.
Furthermore, pursuing a Master of Education and a Spanish teaching accreditation has meant for me that the classroom interactions I offer should be centred around communication and authentic learning experiences. Teaching students to be reflective of their knowledge, engaged, and curious of the subject should be a priority always.
In terms of the practical lesson, each class will span 1 hour regardless of the varied proficiency levels being offered (A1-B2). For adults who wish to pursue Spanish language learning, there is the option to expand the lesson for an additional 20-30 minutes of speaking practice.
