About Marianne
I have been a professional Music Teacher for 2 years now, having taught over 50 students in that time. I obtained my BA (hons) degree in Music at the University of Southampton, after which I taught full-time in a school as well as teaching 1:1.
I have experience in preparing students for exams, such as in school (AQA, Edexcel, etc.) or those taking private music exams (ABRSM/Trinity Guildhall).
I am more than happy to offer my services to those who simply wish to gain further musical knowledge as well and do not necessarily plan to take part in exams.

I offer flexible, interactive online lessons via Zoom in the following subjects:
- Music Theory
- Composition
- Music GCSE/A level
My goal is to provide tailored lessons to each pupil, suited to their own pace and targets whilst in the comfort of their own home. I aim to create a fun, engaging and challenging learning environment by offering several different approaches to learning in each lesson.
These include:
- Listening to extracts of real pieces of music: allows for gained knowledge of musical style, confidence when describing music and ultimately strengthens the ear
- Completing interactive tasks on the whiteboard feature (Zoom): gained fluency in reading musical notation and applying problem-solving skills to music theory
- Live keyboard demonstrations throughout the lesson: this will illustrate points about music theory in a far more tangible way
- Completing short recap quizzes: these typically occur every few weeks and ensures that the student's musical knowledge remains fresh in their memory as they actively engage with the material
All learning resources are provided as part of the service and are for the student to keep.
