About Emma

I am a passionate and experienced History teacher who genuinely enjoys helping students discover an interest in the past and develop confidence in their own abilities. I have been teaching History for 15 years and have worked with students of different ages, abilities and learning needs.

I am particularly liked by students who can become disengaged or find mainstream education challenging, as they respond positively to my approachable personality and teaching style. I treat every student with respect, build positive relationships through humour and encouragement, and create an environment where they feel valued, understood and confident to engage in their learning.

What I enjoy most about teaching is seeing a student have that moment when something finally makes sense. Whether it is understanding a difficult historical event, learning how to structure an essay or seeing their confidence grow before an exam, I find it incredibly rewarding to help students recognise what they are capable of achieving.

I believe History should be more than simply remembering dates and facts. It is about asking questions, understanding different perspectives, forming arguments and learning how to explain your ideas clearly. I aim to make lessons engaging, supportive and accessible while encouraging students to think independently.

I am patient, approachable and committed to helping every student make progress. My goal is for students to finish each lesson feeling more confident, more knowledgeable, more positive about History and looking forward to their next tutoring session.

My approach is friendly, supportive and focused on helping students build both their knowledge and confidence in History.

As a qualified History teacher with 15 years’ experience teaching students from Year 7 to Year 11 in History, I understand that every student learns differently, so I adapt lessons to their individual needs, ability and learning goals.

Lessons are structured around clear learning objectives and use a range of teaching techniques, including questioning, retrieval practice, discussion, modelling, source analysis and guided exam practice. I break down challenging historical concepts into fun memorable chunks, and exam questions into manageable steps, helping students understand not only what to write, but how to develop and explain their ideas effectively.

For GCSE students, I place particular emphasis on exam technique, including essay structure, source and interpretation questions, and 6- and 12-mark questions. I provide clear feedback and model answers so students can recognise how to improve and gradually become more independent.

A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, although this can be adapted depending on the student’s age, ability and individual requirements.

I hold a BA (Hons) in History as well as 4 A-Levels and 10 GCSEs. I have completed extensive training and CPD sessions, providing me with the knowledge and experience supporting students with a wide range of abilities, including students with SEND and additional learning needs.

My aim is to create a positive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their confidence.

Lessons are suitable for KS3 and GCSE History students, particularly those studying Edexcel GCSE History, and are delivered online throughout the UK.
