About Chris

I have a real passion for helping students improve their English writing. As an experienced journalist, writer, editor, tutor, teaching assistant and lecturer, I can cover all areas, from writing essays and articles to preparing for SATs and getting published in the national newspapers. I have a very calm, friendly and patient demeanour and way of working. I explain everything clearly and have a very good understanding of the school curriculum and requirements in the media world. Whether you are concerned about your child's writing ability or taking first steps into the media world, I will work tirelessly to provide the right support and advice.

About the lesson

I have worked for more than 25 years as a journalist, lecturer, tutor and teaching assistant. I will use my experience to carefully and calmly explain how to structure sentences properly depending on the media or assignment and audience/readership; use descriptive language; check for grammar and spelling mistakes; edit and proofread copy and prepare copy for publication or school work and exams. I have tutored and worked as a teaching assistant for many years with predominantly primary school aged children, from reception to Y6. This includes children with special educational needs. I am good at getting kids to think and write creatively and am very encouraging and supportive. I have also lectured and mentored older students and young adults in how to write and edit properly, prepare their copy for publication and explained how to make it in the media world.
