About Mhairi
As a graduate of Arabic and French, I understand the need for regular conversation with native speakers in order to achieve fluency in a language. I have experience in tutoring students from a variety of backgrounds. In 2017, I spent three months volunteering at an association assisting asylum seekers, where I gave weekly French lessons to both adults and children. Between 2017-2019, I was an English tutor for the Syrian Teenagers Tutoring and Education programme, where I helped Syrians with their English language learning and other homework tasks. I have also been involved in a number of language exchange partnerships, where I have assisted both French and Arabic speakers with their English conversation skills. Currently, I am providing online English tutoring for someone in France who is seeking to build their confidence in English before a new job.

My teaching method is very adaptable and I think it is crucial to tailor lessons to each students’ individual needs. I prefer having an introductory session where the student and I can come up with a teaching plan that suits them, and to gauge the level of fluency that the student already has. From there, I will be able to see what areas the student needs to focus on. Typically, I will focus on conversation and building a student’s confidence in oral expression, but I can also provide lessons on specific grammar points that the student may need to work on. I will provide feedback during each session and correct any mistakes that have been made in conversation.
