About María
I am a native speaker of the Spanish language with good knowledge of Spanish and Latin-American literature and culture as well as years of experience teaching and marking GCSE, A’Level examination papers, and have been appointed to the role of Principal Examiner of the oral component over the last year by the International Baccalaureate Organization based in Cardiff.
I teach Spanish, at different levels from beginners to advanced, ensuring that classes are adjusted to the needs of each particular student. Ideally, each class will be a mixture of grammar theory, followed by practical exercises, reading original texts and listening to different original audio material, stories, songs, poetry, etc. on current topics involving the different communities where the target language is spoken. I endeavor to help students to build up vocabulary and widen their knowledge of the Hispanic history and culture. Discussions in Spanish are related to everyday situations and topics associated with the target language.
I love teaching, and I am fascinated by the subject I teach. I love the challenge of getting my pupils involved and interested in learning the language and awaken their curiosity on the different aspects of language learning, such as history, culture, customs, traditions and celebrations. In short, I work in each class to find a way to make teaching and learning a more enjoyable, fascinating and satisfactory experience, for both, my pupils and myself.
