About John

John Castore offers Violin and/or Viola Lessons, and still finds time to perform in RI, MA and CT.

"There's nothing more refreshing than having a shy and nervous student for the first lesson, then to see them chatty and comfortable the next week!"

I have been fortunate enough to serve as violin + viola faculty work with The Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School, also in the past I have taught with/for: Foxboro High School, White School of Music in North Attleboro, More Than Music in North Kingstown, The Croft School - Upper School in Providence, the BASICS program spread accross numerous elementary schools in Rhode Island, and as violin mentor for the Westminster Youth String Ensemble located in Westerly.

I have played the violin my entire life since 3rd grade, went to Boston Conservatory for my undergraduate & have enjoyed summer festivals concentrating on performance such as Bowdoin, Chautauqua, The Heifetz Institute and Green Mountain.

Feel free to reach out for logistics such as location and timing!

About the lesson

First time lessons are approached like a first day of school, there won't be any pop quizzes or tests or anything! However I ask that the student play something for me if not a complete beginner (otherwise we will start from the beginning), I like to say for students with experience that are coming to learn that I have to learn too, where we currently are and where we'd like to go!
It is likely that I will go over the difference between the right hand and left hand duties, and the difference between what we can do and what we know. All lessons are catered to the individual!
