About Sara
I am a recent graduate from the University of Houston where I completed my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology as a member of the Honors college. I have about five years of professional tutoring experience, and I am currently teaching both independently and in partnership with school districts across the country.
I took 14 AP classes in high school, earning college credit and high grades for all of them, most notably a 5 on AP English Lang and a 4 on AP Calculus AB. I genuinely enjoy teaching, and I would love nothing more than to see my students succeed.
When I was a senior in high school, I helped my underclassmen friends study for the SAT and other classes, giving me my first experience with teaching others. I started working on SAT prep myself when I was still in middle school, so I have a lot of experience with standardized test preparation and how the SAT is structured. On my first attempt on the SAT, I got a score of 1400/1600, and with my help, I'm sure my students will surpass my first-time score easily.

The SAT does not have to be a scary test.
I personally research each year's test and any new test-taking strategies to stay up to date on all things exam-prep related, ensuring that each lesson is centered around the newest information.
My main goal is to help students understand the concepts, giving them what they need to excel in their classes as well as on the test.
Lesson plans will be individualized, based on PSAT or previous SAT scores, and the majority of each lesson will be focused on concepts that the student is struggling with. In addition to this, I will also offer tips and tricks from both my personal testing experience and the research I have done on test-taking advice for the SAT. Students are welcome to request a lesson over a specific topic at any time, and I always encourage my students to bring any past or current relevant materials from a course they are taking, whether that be homework, graded past tests, or review/study guides from their teachers.
A typical lesson will start with a brief introduction to any specific topics we will be going over that day as well as discussion over any relevant testing strategies I would recommend to the student. Next, we would work through practice problems visually and verbally together, then continue thew practice with the student working through problems independently. When it comes to the independent practice, I will have the student check in with me every 1-5 problems depending on the student's skill level, speed, or other needs, and we will discuss any mistakes and how to correct them. To wrap up a session, we will summarize any important tips or notes from the days lesson, and will briefly discuss what the next lesson should cover.
Since I am tutoring for the SAT test, these lessons are for anyone (presumably grades 6-12) who is preparing for the test, whether it is in the near future or years away.
