About Richard

Want to brush up your skills or start from scratch? Whatever level or duration, I am the tutor for you! My aim is to help you to help yourself - with lots of enthusiasm, encouragement, fun & laughter.

I teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Apart from "O" and "A" levels, I have an upper second class honours degree in French and German, a PGCE, a TESOL qualification from Bradford College and a CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) in 2011, an RSA qualification in Literacy and Numeracy tuition and certificates in linguistics. I also have DBS Enhanced Disclosure certificate which is auto- updated.

I charge just £20 per hour including marking and prep. If you have a friend who wants to join you, they come free! Also, you get 10% off your first four lessons!

I am available weekdays any time. I am also available some evenings. I teach teenagers and adults, and I can prepare students for the FCE, CAE, IELTS and BULATS exams.

And finally ... a personal message to you: don't be afraid to make mistakes - remember the saying "Those who never made a mistake never made anything!" Persevere, don't take yourself too seriously, and enjoy the language-learning process.

About the lesson

My aim is to help you to become more confident in all four skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing. I use an initial assessment tool to gauge you level before we start.
After that, I tailor my teaching to your needs. So if you want to achieve a score of 7.5 at IELTS, I use course books and mock tests, together with hints and tips, to help you achieve that. If, on the other hand, your main focus is using English effectively at work, we will look at writing emails, telephone technique, etc. My focus is always on meeting your needs.
