About Lisa

My GCSE results demonstrate a consistently strong track record of helping students exceed expectations. In 2025, I taught a cohort of 52 students, of whom just two were initially predicted a Grade 9. Ultimately, 15 students achieved Grade 9, and across the cohort, students achieved an average of 1.5 grades above their target grades.

This success continued in 2026, when my GCSE students achieved an average of 2.26 grades above their target grades, with over 60% of the group achieving Grades 7–9.

These outcomes reflect my commitment to identifying each student’s individual strengths and areas for development, building their confidence and equipping them with the subject knowledge, essay-writing skills and examination technique needed to achieve—and often significantly exceed—their target
My teaching style places a strong emphasis on long-term memory and effective recall. I use a range of memorable techniques, associations and mnemonics to help students retain challenging key terminology and concepts, particularly those that can easily become confused under examination pressure.

For example, I have developed simple but effective ways of helping students distinguish and remember key Buddhist concepts, such as Arhats and their relationship to Theravada Buddhism. Some of my techniques may initially earn an eye-roll or two, but they work! My students consistently achieve significantly above the national average in the Buddhism paper, and many tell me years later, even when they reach Year 13, that they can still remember the techniques they learnt at GCSE.

I believe that genuine confidence in Religious Studies comes from being able to retrieve knowledge accurately and apply it effectively. My approach therefore combines memory-based learning with strong examination technique, helping students build knowledge that stays with them rather than relying on short-term revision before an exam.grades.

My lessons are carefully structured to ensure that students retain knowledge, build confidence and learn how to apply their understanding effectively in examinations.

Lessons typically begin with retrieval practice, revisiting previously learnt material and identifying any gaps in knowledge. We then move on to developing and consolidating subject knowledge, before completing application tasks that allow students to put their understanding into practice through exam-style questions and activities.

My teaching draws on effective memory and learning strategies, including retrieval practice, interleaving and regular knowledge recall. I also use targeted questioning throughout lessons to check understanding, challenge misconceptions and encourage students to explain and develop their ideas with greater confidence.

Rather than simply revising content once and moving on, I regularly return to previous topics so that knowledge becomes embedded in long-term memory. This approach helps students make connections between topics, recall information more confidently under exam conditions and develop the skills needed to apply their knowledge successfully.
