About Ethan
I’m a London-based saxophonist and reed player with a versatile career spanning jazz and classical music. I’ve performed on some of the UK’s most prestigious stages, including multiple appearances with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, performances with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and work with The Royal Ballet. In the jazz world, I’ve played at Ronnie Scott’s alongside Orphy Robinson, as well as at renowned venues such as Pizza Express Live Soho and Crazy Coqs. I’ve also worked with leading ensembles including the Syd Lawrence Jazz Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.
I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with a wide range of outstanding artists, including Dave Holland, Norma Winstone, Evan Parker, Trish Clowes, Tim Garland, Rob Luft, Tori Freestone, Clare Teal, Chris Dean, Pete Long, Winston Rollins, Benny Greb, Jojo Mayer and Virgil Donati.
Alongside my jazz work, I perform regularly in classical settings and am a founding member of the award-winning Astral Saxophone Quartet. The quartet reached the semi-finals of the Royal Overseas League and won the Royal College of Music Woodwind Chamber Competition, earning a residency at Boconnoc Estate in Cornwall. I’ve also performed with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.
I’m currently studying for a Master of Arts in Jazz Saxophone at the Royal Academy of Music, where I was awarded an entrance scholarship. I previously graduated from the Royal College of Music with a first-class degree. I’m also a Neville Wathen Scholar, a Henry Wood Trust Award recipient, and a Help Musicians Postgraduate Award holder for the 2024/25 academic year.
Alongside performing, I’m passionate about teaching. As I continue to develop as a musician, I enjoy sharing my experiences with my students to inspire and support them on their own musical journeys. I’m a patient, relaxed and enthusiastic teacher, and I love helping students who are genuinely curious and motivated to learn. My lessons are fun, engaging, and tailored to each individual student. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Saxophone from the Royal College of Music and have over seven years of teaching experience with students aged 11–50, across both classical and jazz styles.
Lessons are structured yet flexible, with a strong focus on building confidence, technique, and musical expression. Whether you’re working towards music grades or simply want to play for enjoyment, I adapt each lesson to suit your goals and interests.
I offer 30, 45, 60, and 90-minute lessons, creating a supportive and inspiring environment where students can develop at their own pace while genuinely enjoying making music.
