About Laura

Accounting was something that I never thought I would be interested, let alone earn a degree in. However, my keen love for numbers and success working with them guided me towards them. Not everyone has this passion for numbers, which I understand. This is the main reason I wanted to start tutoring. To be able to help others learn and excel in an area that may be confusing to some. I can bring clarity and understanding to what I am good at.

I have been working with numbers since my first job as a bank teller, in 2003. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Accounting later in life, in 2020. In between, every job I have held as had to do with numbers, accounting, and spreadsheets of sorts. I also teach an Adult Ed Basic Bookeeping class twice a year for my employer.

I am confident my experience and knowledge will allow me to be a successful tutor.

A friend of mine commented on how well I explain my process of how I complete work/assignments and said I should teach.

2020-Bachelor's Degree-Magna Cum Laude from SUNY Empire State College-3.89 GPA in Business, Management, Economics, with a minor in Accounting.

6 years in the banking field

Over 11 years in the Accouting field for my current employer.

About the lesson

First, I determine what the students goals are, then their level. From this info I can determine what needs to be taught or reinforced as well as the depth of information that is needed. I also like to determine the students learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) which will allow me to ensure their lessons/my teachings are appropriate to their learning style. Communication with the student is also very important throughout the process.

Adult students that have little or no previous knowledge of Accouting.

Peers and co-workers familiar with accounting.

Accounting can be tough without the proper foundation and basics. Learning these can make a world of difference in the accounting field.

Being thanked by a couple in my Fall 2021 class for teaching them the ways of accounting they needed to learn in order to run their business successfully.
