About Angela

Hi, my name is Angela, Ang, and I am a sophomore studing environmental resources engineering. I work at a summer camp, "Camp Talooli" and play college soccer. I work with all kinds of kids on all different levels and can adapt to what they need. As a student I have always been very invested in not only good grades but thoroughly understanding all subjects in school. I was very invloved in high school with clubs like national honor society, math league, student council and yearbook. I developed great studying techniques, problem solving skills, test taking strategies and time management in prioritizing tasks. I feel that I have a lot to offer many students as I have struggled with a fair few problems myself over the years and I find that I can explain things in multiple ways. I love seeing people put in the effort to succeed and look forward to working with you.

I was an elementary tutor during high school and helped in all subjects but mostly math and science.

I graduated high school third in my class of 160 and I am currently holding a 3.8 gpa in an engineering program at ESF. I work well with children ranging from ages 6-15 through my counseling position and have tought them about social skills, teamwork aspects and life lessons. I also tutored mostly math and science in high school for younger students.

About the lesson

Getting to know the student, learning their likes and dislikes and learning about their strengths and learning opputunities. After establishing a nice foundations we can start getting into the tutoring.

With counseling I have worked with kids from 6-15 some of whom had special needs or difficulties with focusing or listening. Other kids were older and struggled with more broad school and social related topics.

Try to find someone who is relatable and can remember how difficult understanding something new can be. Someone who understands this will be able to find different ways to get the point across for example pictures, analogies, flow charts, flash cards, diagrams and even other teachers notes can all be useful. Having a successful history in these courses that can be shown in a college major directed in that area of expertise.

I myself struggled with a class last semester that many students were having issues with. I put in extra time going to office hours for help, collaborating with other students and making the effort to take effective notes in class to stay up to date with the material. Toward the end of the semester I was getting worried about the final 3 hour exam but preparing and studying effectively and constantly was worth it in the end with a successful grade.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should ask specific (or as specific as they could get) questions that narrows down the help they need. How can i ask this question so that the teacher understands what I'm trying to say? Having a one-on-one conversation and using a step process like "I understand this part and this makes sense but then this next part is where I get fuzzy" makes for effective learning.
