About Michael
I just finished a graduate fellowship at UMass-Dartmouth where I taught Business and Technical Communication to a diverse student body. I also tutored English and was a Supplemental Instructor and Acting Learning Commons Coordinator for Bristol Community College. This is all part of a career change that started exactly four years ago. These accomplishments and successes are after 19 years of sales, sales training, and professional writing and print journalism.

My approach to teaching is to give students an in-class activity part of "Think-Pair-Share". This is a type of gamification where students answer an open-ended question, then compare answers with one or two classmates, and then these small groups give common answers. This way the students write and the collaborate as a team which is good prep work for group projects. It also helps with their writing acumen and esteem as writers. The approach to tutoring, however, is to learn the individual students' learning style(s) and conform the tutoring and coaching around that. An English Language Acquirer, for example, I would get them to say their name and tell me their current job and where they live. This way they start thinking critically in English and become more and more conversational over time.
