I teach 14-18 year olds at KS3 and KS4, studying for GCSEs and A-Levels in English Language and English Literature, and 1st year English Literature undergraduates. Lessons typically last between 30 mins to 1 hr.

I customise classes depending on which text is being read and studied. I use a close-reading methodology in partnership with the student to help develop independent understanding and comprehension of individual authors and texts. An outline of a typical lesson involves a joint reading of a short extract of English language or literature text, modelling answers to specific questions, and feedback on student's answers.

I help with essay planning, structure, vocabulary, grammar, terminology and understanding of themes, form and style. My aim is to help you excel in your English examinations and inspire a love of English beyond whether that be further study at Advanced level, university entrance or building English skills generally.

For my lessons you will need access to any text(s) you are studying plus ability to take notes (either digitally or pen and paper).

My qualifications include:

- Bachelors degree in English from the University of York

- Masters degree in Publishing from Oxford Brookes University

- Masters degree in English Studies from the University of Sheffield (pending)

I am a doctoral candidate at the University of York researching ecology in James Joyce and Modern Irish Poetry.
