About Jim

I program pronunciation assessment software to help English learners with intelligibility remediation.

The intellectual challenge and feeling from helping so many learners.

I've been a tutor since high school, and have done general education, technical computer science, and English as a second language tutoring one-on-one.

I studied statistics and computer science at Carnegie Mellon University in the 1980s, and have continued on a technical career path. I sucessfully released a speech recognition-based pronunciation intelligibility remediation system to a company with 33 million students, and have been more or less coasting since then looking for the next step.

About the lesson

I'd like to start with a 10-30 minute phone call describing their overall goals for learning Python skills, and the immediate problems they have been encountering which have caused them to seek a tutor.

Mostly adults, including ESL and native English speakers. I've been trying to focus on Python learners for the last few years.

Make sure you enjoy speaking with them and screen-sharing with them on a teleconference application.

I enjoyed speaking at the San Francisco Bay Area Python Special Interest Group talk on maps recently: (concealed information)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my long term goals?

What are my immediate goals?

What is causing me the most trouble now?

What do I want to be able to do with my learnings?

Deadly! Speak Clearly LLC has provided me extremely affordable tutoring! The tutor whom I am working with is knowledgable in the field and more, eager to help me succeed in my classes and beyond, and has been flexible when there is ever a need to move around any of our sessions. I would highly recommend working with Speak Clearly LLC to anyone who is looking for not only affordable and helpful tutoring, but also to have a mentor who is able to help you outside of your classwork, in aspects such as building a portfolio and building a skillset to succeed in interviews with top software companies!
