About Rio

FIRST CLASS IS FREE! Donations welcome but not necessary.

I have two types of classes. I teach "Dance class" where we learn dope movement and techniques. I also teach "Rooted Movement" where we acknowledge the importance of movement while studying biblical scripture.

I have been blessed with an understanding of the impact movement has on our lives. I have been a dancer since before I was born. I have performed, taught, and choreographed on stages, in videos, in studios, and over seas and thank God for every second of it. Everything I do relates to that passion and I wish to share that excitement with my students. I love learning about my students and interpreting how thier movements relate to thier lives. I believe every single student experiences dance differently. This is why my Dance and Psychology degrees and background in misestry encorage me to create something "more" than "Just a dance class"; it's a fun, hype, meaningful, and transformative experience.

In High School I founded an after school program called “Lost and Found” where we would teach dance to kids. I always wanted to show others how impactful movement can be in your life.

Degrees in Dance and Psychology. I have danced my whole life and studied almost 20 years of it. I study, perform, and teach old-school hip hop, breakdancing, and stage, as well as ballroom, African, Latin, and more. My Psych degree allows me to understand movement through a lens of it impacting how we think and feel.

About the lesson

I believe that the best approach to working with new students has to be an atypical process. We all vary in our ages, experiences, styles, and goals for dance/movement. Where one student might thrive in jumping right into foundational material, another student might need to build a stronger relationship to music first. My initial process involves, but is not limited to, me learning about my student’s goals and needs, then creating a curriculum that aligns best with their growth as a dancer and more.

My students have ranged from 5 to 50 years old. I’ve had beginners and prodigies in dance. Some students of mine wanted the world to know they loved dance, and others barely wanted me (their dance teacher) to know it. I've seen it all

Find a teacher you can really trust to encourage you to take note of your own growth from session to session, and do not compare yourself to anyone but yourself. Be open and willing to learn! Not just about movement, but about how you process the teachings. Never make it about being better than someone else. It is always about becoming a better version of you.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out

Before expressing what your NEEDS are, you need to establish what your GOALS are. Take some time and figure out what you want to see get out of this interaction as a whole, as well as what you want to bring into the space as a student. Clear communication comes from willingness to understand and take responsibility for your involvement.

GOD has called me to share movement with as many people as posible. So I'm just being obedient. Donations are welcome but not necessary

I work with your budget to continue teaching classes. My average rate is $75 depending on duration and distance from Burbank.
