Experienced tutor in Dance in New York, JT offers private lessons tailored to your needs.

I LOVE my sessions with JT!!! A lot of people know JT from his time teaching at Broadway Dance Center and his work choreographing for MSQ. But what a lot of people don't know is that his formal studies were in vocal performance. Because of his extensive musical training and his strong story telling skills, I can honestly say, his coaching sessions are some of the most helpful and productive sessions I've ever done. Since I started coaching with JT I've added two pop songs to my book (usually a struggle for me) and he has coached me through two other songs that I'd been working on with my voice teacher. Not only are those songs right for my type and the shows I want to audition for -he is fantastic at helping students expand their rep - but I also feel confident that my acting and story telling skills are shining in a way they haven't previously. All of this aside, I think the best thing about JT is that he doesn't put people in boxes; if you're a singer great, if you're a dancer great, but he always works to get his students performing at their best.

JT has helped me so much with telling a story through musical theatre songs! The one-on-one lessons have been very helpful and personal to me as an artist. After several lessons, I feel super prepared going into college auditions during my senior year!

First off, this technique of vocal interpretation is a game changer. I just started lessons with J.T., and I am already noticing a huge difference in my performance level. He is a phenomenal coach who has an abundance of knowledge and genuinely cares about you as a person. I have learned so much already and I am beyond excited to learn more from him. I would recommend J.T. without question to anyone who is serious about pursuing singing/acting professionally.

Christina Goslin: JT’s Musical Theater Coaching Review
Within the two years that I have known JT Horinstien, he has been a guiding force in my growth as a performer. During the recent circumstances of the pandemic, I have gotten the wonderful opportunity to work with JT virtually! It has completely altered the way in which I approach connecting to audition/performance material for the better. With the help of JT’s acting method, I have improved immensely upon my ability to convey specific emotion for every lyric. I have also improved upon my ability to feel a mutual catharsis with the audience that makes musical theater performance great. He helps guide me to reach a higher performance quality level by finding the tactics and purpose that is needed to truly feel the words that are coming out of your mouth as if it is the very first time. This is a necessary skill as it is easy to get lost in performing that one may forget how to make a performance fresh and emotionally freeing each and every time. By the end of every session I feel like I have grown as a performer so much and climbed one step further to acting just as well as those whom we adore on the broadway stages. I think the thing that binds all people is our power of togetherness. We can be there for each other even when we can’t physically be together. Music is something we need now more than ever to escape this terrifying yet beautiful world as well as face it as artists so that we may be the change that we seek. JT can and will bring out the performance capabilities that you have always had within, but just need a little help to foster. Overall, I would highly recommend his immersive and eye-opening coaching sessions! You will not regret it!
