About Elena

Specializations:

(1) Working with the determined beginner - advanced beginner who thinks s/he has two left feet and can't seem to "get it." For those of you who feel that group lessons do not fit your needs for whatever reason. Learn proper technique, feel what proper connection looks like. End goal: feeling comfortable going out and salsa dancing socially. Getting comfortable enough with enough turn patterns to dance the night away.

(2) Salsa styling & technique: What happens when they let go of my during partnerwork. This part of the dance is generally referred to as "shines" and I will teach you steps, exercises and choreo to help you get comfortable expressing yourself to the music during the times when each partner gets down to the music. Why is this important? Knowing how to dance with the music on your own will also help you in your partnerwork as you fuse yourself to the rhythms of salsa!

(3) Follower technique: learn how to get those double/multiple turns, how to add styling to your following and individual sign work. What are the things needed for you to take your following to the next level? How can I follow any lead and feel good! Gain the confidence to dance with ANYONE!

(4) Want to work on turn/spin technique? We got drills for you! It is possible even if you think you can't do a single turn right now. Learn the different types of turns/spins and the things you can do to get better!

EXPERIENCE: World Salsa Champion, experienced and professional competitive and flavorful social dancer born and raised in NYC, having the fortune to be trained with the very best in the mambo world. Performed and taught internationally and nationally. Specialize also in wedding dances. Experienced not only in salsa, but also other partner dances such as chachacha, bachata, merengue,collegiate shag, forró, kizomba, and semba. Also trained in other forms of dancing including Dunham technique, ballet, modern, Afro-Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Peruvian, Haitian, bellydance etc.

I love watching my students go from "I can't dance" or "I don't have flavour" to "I DID IT! I CAN DO IT!" You don't need to be a professional social dancer to look like one! You can learn the specialized techniques to help you lead and follow like a seasoned dancer, as well as adding your own unique styling!

Dance is the right of everyone! Yes salsa can look very fancy and difficult but it really is accessible to everyone. Everyone just has different strengths and ways of learning n I love tapping into and finding the right key that helps you unlock that A-HA! moment!

Trained dancer in modern, ballet, salsa (of course), collegiate shag, kizomba, forró. Have certificates of completion from intensive trainings in Silvestre Technique (Brazil), Dunham Technique (St. Louis & Chicago), and Datura (bellydance).

Trained and certified yoga instructor (200RYT).

Continuously train in dance in not only classical technique but urban styles (dancehall, vogue, hiphop), contemporary, bellydance, West African & dances of the African diaspora.

About the lesson
