About Madelyn

I was dancing before I was walking, always moving to a beat that was usually in my head!

I have been dancing for over 20 years. I trained with dance professionals from Europe in college while studying abroad, I've taught children in a dance studio environment, actively training as a competitive ballroom dancer.

I love to teach the basics, beginners, children and adults. The fundamentals are the most important part. Without them, you have nothing to build on!

I've taught children 3 - 9 years old. I've taught adults, and I've helped choreograph a mother/son wedding ballroom dance as well as a couples first dance!

My first official teaching job was during my senior year of college at my "home studio", the studio I grew up going to and taking lessons. It was only fitting for me to start my teaching career at a place that had inspired me so much and motivated me to keep my passion alive.

I started taking dance lessons at age 6 at a local dance studio. I danced in a Junior Tap Troupe and competed in a group Production Company throughout my formative years. I followed my ballet teacher into her own private studio and studied with her for an additional 4 years during highschool at which time I was also on my High School Dance Team! I then went on to pursue a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree where I studied classical ballet, jazz, contemporary, and choreography for 3 years at Jacksonville University. I studied ballet, contemporary, theatre, kinesiology, musical theatre and theatre combat while studying abroad in Germany and France. I've been learning ballroom for 6 years and have competed in 3 competitions, placing First in most of my dances, around the Central Florida area.

About the lesson

I always take some time to get to know the student and what they are wanting to get out of a lesson. What goals they might have in mind, why they're looking for a lesson, etc.

I've worked with children, both boys and girls, ages 3 to 9 years old, teenagers, as well as adults. I most enjoy working with beginners however I also really enjoy working with adults who want to learn something new.

Go with your gut. When learning to dance, on any level, you have to be comfortable with your teacher. They are there to help you. Dance can be as simple as putting one foot in front of the other, or as complex as using every ounce of emotion and energy you have in your body to move. In learning anything it can be frustrating so you need to make sure you are comfortable.

I recently competed in my third ballroom dance competition. It was my "come-back" competition after being off the competition dance floor for almost 5 years. It was an amazing event at which I learned so much about myself, pushing myself, as well as appreciating the hard work my instructors, partner and friends put into helping me get back out there.
