About Geoff
I've been playing and teaching for over 40 years. I performed on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Miss USA Pageant and appeared in Three to Tango starring Neve Campbell. I can be heard in the Scooby-Doo Movie, American Pie, The Haunted Mansion Soundtrack and many more.

I enjoy teaching all styles of drumming, melody percussion and hand drums. Learning in your home, on your own drums with Zoom, Skype or FaceTime makes it easy and convent to schedule lessons.
I started teaching privately in 1989 at Royal Music in Royal Oak. In 2012, Berkley High School hired me for bandcamp and sectionals. When they started getting 1's at festivals, the phone rang with offers from other band directors.
I have a Bachelor of Music degree from Wayne State University. I've also studied privately with Joe Morello (Dave Brubeck Quartet), Jerry McKenzie (Stan Kenton Big Band), Sam Tundo (Detroit Symphony Orchestra), as well as several of Detroit's top percussionists.

Typically on a first lesson, I'll ask about their musical background and what they want from me as an instructor. Then, I'll ask them to play something that best represents their abilities. From there, we'll try some different things to find a starting point.
I've worked with students of all ages, styles and levels... from beginners to students earning college credits. For a while, I was getting a lot of kids with autism because their therapists thought it would help. They were some of my best students!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about what their needs are. Since it's not a classroom, they have control over the direction, content and pace of the lessons. If they don't know what they want, I can create a program based on their interests.

Very fun and easy to work with! He helped improve my reading a lot over the course of a week.
Geoff was great with our son! Chris started when he was 6 and took lessons from Geoff for 6 or 7 years. He learned so much from Geoff and, thanks to all he learned, as a freshman he played drum kit for the Edsel Ford marching thunderbirds for their classically modern show and earned many first places in the percussion category! Details
There are options for half-hour, 1 hour, weekly and bi-weekly lessons. Rates are $35/half-hour at Oz's Music in Ann Arbor. House calls are $40/half-hour.
