It was difficult to find a drum teacher with enough cool factor AND patience to please my picky 6 year old who wanted to learn to rock the drums like Ringo Star. Mike strikes a great balance between making the lesson fun and solidly teaching music fundamentals.

Mike is a great teacher with a very interesting musical background. My young teenager enjoyed working with him and learned a lot. Mike was open to what we were looking for (a year of lessons before a move to a new city where my kid wanted to play percussion in the school band), was patient when my kid's anxiety issues flared up, and was easy to communicate with as a parent. I think he would also be very good for more advanced players and I recommend him for any level of percussion.

This is Lee and I’ve spent two semesters with Mike to continue with my drum set lesson. Mike is a very easygoing and professional teacher in percussion, and I enjoyed a lot to learn with him. Since I had a intense schedule in my own major, I could not guarantee my practice time length on my own, but Mike still tried to cover as much as possible and thought me a lot in percussion. I would recommend to study with Mike no mater what level you are in percussion. He is patient and accommodating.

I started taking lessons with Michael to improve my speed, technique and creativity as a drummer. He helped me get better in all of these areas by stressing the importance of rudiments and carefully coaching me through playing some of my favorite songs. Michael is funny, engaging and his experience as a great drummer and student of percussion makes him a great teacher.

Michael has been teaching me for one year and I enjoy working with him a lot. The best and most patient percussion teacher ever!! He is good at all different kinds of percussion but the drum set is what I normally learn. He normally separates the teaching session into two parts, basic drum pad training and drum set practice, which I found it very helpful especially for beginners like me. He always asks me for the songs I like and he will conpose the music sheets for drum part (literally any kind of songs since I’m Chinese, I have a lot of favourite Chinese songs but he doesn’t mind at all hh). Learning the songs that I love has always been a great motivation for me to keep practicing drum which also indicates that Michael is such a great teacher who knows how to motivates his students and lead them further.
