About Alex
I am a Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) graduate with a degree in composition and production. I specialize in teaching kids in all areas of percussion, especially drum set and vibraphone, as well as all other percussion instruments for marching band or all-state and regional auditions. I come from a line of music teachers and I have a strong passion for spreading the ability to self-express using the medium of music. I've been teaching my mother's students privately for years, mostly helping with audition pieces and starting kids out with mallet instruments.
I have taught many kids from the Hartford, CT school system. The area is poor and many of these kids did not have a strong foundation at home from which to base their learning. In many cases, practicing at home was difficult or impossible. I had to find ways to make sure these kids were still progressing even though their circumstances were more difficult than mine ever were.
I have a degree from Berklee College of Music, one of the best contemporary music schools in the world, so I have been around music my whole life and I have a passion for sharing the joy and satisfaction it can bring.

The first order of business is understanding what the child and parent want to achieve, and to make sure everyone is comfortable in the setting. After I design a plan of action for the student, we will plug away at the material during the lessons, which will be varied enough that the student never loses interest. Analyzing the student's practice habits is also very important.
