About Violet
I have been a drummer since I was 6. I have been teaching percussion since 2010. I have several gold medals and World Championships in various percussion competitions. I have done everything from jamming in barns to competing on an international stage.
I am also trans. I am a social worker. And I have a a passion from inclusive and culturally sensitive approaches to everything I do.
I love creating learning environments that students do not normally get. I did not grow up in an affirming musical environment, so providing a safe and inclusive space for students is what brings me the most joy.

About the lesson

I take a few short minutes to ask about history with percussion, what their set-up is like, and what they are looking to get out of lessons.
From there I do a quick warm-up with the student, then ask the student to play their favorite beat.
Once I have an understanding of the level of the student, we dig into learning fundamentals, beats, advanced rudiments, or songs, depending on what the student wants.
All skill levels from 2nd graders to college students.
I volunteer with Grrrls Rock Columbus. We have a week long music camp every year for girls, trans, and gnc teens 13-17.
