About Paxton

One part of the job that makes this path so exciting is the excitment of my students. Seeing your students progress over the years puts a big smile on my face.

I will guide my students in whatever style they so choose on the drumset. I am experienced in the art of jazz, fusion and math rock.

I have been a drum set player since I was 12, I am currently 22 now going to IUP for my BA in Music. You might have seen me gigging over the years in Indiana at Grace church in the "Masters Big Band" or at IUP in their Jazz ensemble. I have been in several combo bands since my time here in Indiana and might have even seen me on Philadelphia street drumming away for community events.

Some qualificaations I have has been:

- Giving lessons through the community music school here at IUP.

- Have performed as a Drumset player for Matrix World Ensemble WGI.

- Have been a marching band tech for Delaware valley highschool in North Eastern PA.

- Have recieved the Semper Fidelis Award for musical excellence.

I got started teaching in high school giving lessons to students moving up into high school level jazz band. As soon as i graduated I started giving lessons on the side of working at our local hospital in eastern PA. As soon as I started my junior year at IUP I started giving lessons through the community music school at IUP and am currently the only lesson instructor for the Summer. If your school age kids are intertested contact IUP!

I am currently on my last year at IUP for a BA in musical studies with a percussion concentration. I have performed in Matrix World as a drum set/rack player in 2020. and have years of experience gigging with a jazz background.

About the lesson

The typical process for my new students would be grasping their interests. Whatever a student wants to study I will be glad to adjust and work on whatever they would want to work on. I have drum lesson books from latin to jazz to metal that we can work from and grow together.

I have worked with School age students around 7 years old up until 16. I am willing to give anyone of any age drum set lessons. You are never old enough to stop learning new things! I have also worked in a Daycare setting if you are worried how I would be around your Yungins.

I would advise to look for someone who is willing to adjust to any style you would like to learn. I might not be the biggest fan of country music, but if a students wanted to learn the style then I would be glad to help.

Also, find someone who is going to push you to be your best, but at the same time shows they care.

I am fond of recently getting to see our finished WGI show a few weeks back. The 2020 season I was a part of World class the whole universe kinda shut down and was not able to finish out my season. But seeing the show in its complete form gave me goosebumps. Seeing the old friends I havent seen in a years time was amazing as well.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As far as the learning aspect: How do you learn the best?

- Reading music

- Listening and copying

- Trial and Error.

These are just a few ways some people learn. for example: If you wanted to learn a specific coordination I could try and find a song that imitates the coordination they are trying to learn for an auditory learner.

Some needs people might want to think about before getting lessons:

- Coordination.

- Specific styles.

- Improvisation.

- Freedom.

Details

Standard pricing for my lessons are the same all around no matter the age of the student. 25 for a half an hour and 45 for an hour. If you would like extended time each week we can work out a discount and long term pricing!
