About Isabel

I love working with students, especially as a student myself. I've been tutoring on and off for 3 years, both in volunteer and paid positions. I've worked with beginning math students, upper high school and college math students, as well as students studying science subjects, especially chemistry and physics. I'm currently a second year undergraduate student at Princeton University studying Electrical Engineering and Quantitative Computation Biology.

I started tutoring as a peer tutor at my high school, where I taught physics and algebra I/II (NYS regents curriculum), as well as college essay review and SAT/ACT prep. I did this for two years before graduating and starting college. I've continued to be an online peer tutor, mainly focusing on math fundamentals, essay review, and chemistry.

I've worked with students for many years, though I don't have any specific training.

About the lesson

For new students, I'll usually take one lesson to get to know them and understand more about how they learn - what they find difficult, what strategies they've already tried, and any feedback their teachers have given them. I'll then spend the next few lessons trying out different methods of learning until we find something that works. I ask students to fill out a short form after each lesson giving me some quick feedback and re-iterating the study plan we will have created during the lesson in their own words. My hope is that eventually students won't need my assistance and can use the skills we work on on their own.

I've worked with mainly high school and early college students, though I have mentored middle/elementary school students through FIRST Robotics.

I typically ask for $15/hour for subject tutoring, $20/hour for SAT/ACT test prep, and $25/hour for essay review (college essays, essay revision, etc.), though I will wave fees for low-income or struggling students.
