About Moriah
I absolutely love working with students of all ages, and I've built my life around working with children. In addition to my work as a tutor, I have extensive experience working as a summer camp counselor, and as a full-time nanny. I bring my childcare expertise into my private lessons and tutoring, and I've found that it helps me relate to my youngest students, as well as keep them on track. I always aim to foster my students' self-esteem and self-confidence as well as their skills!
I am college educated, trained in CPR and first aid, and fully vaccinated. I continue to take extensive covid precautions.
I love working with kids. One of my favorite things about tutoring young children is how much fun we have together! As a young student, I really struggled with learning to read, and I hated the extra practice and classes I had to take. With that in mind, I strive to make my lessons and tutoring engaging and enjoyable for my young students. I never want tutoring to be something they hate; my students actually ask for more lessons!
In addition to working with young non-readers, art is my personal passion and the focus of my life. I love working with students of all ages who share my love for creative expression! It's a joy to be able to help my students improve their technical skills, create a portfolio that gets them into their dream school, or even just enjoy the chance to be creative as a hobby!
I've had 15 years of intensive art training, including at the university level at Maryland Institute College of Art. I graduated at the top of my class from the prestigious Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts here in Dallas, Texas. Throughout my career, I've been featured in numerous galleries, and both print and online publications, and I've won awards for my work at Maryland Institute College of Art. I've been working with kids as an academic tutor and private art teacher for the past six years.
In my own work, I combine many mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, found objects, plastic, collage, and digital art to create my pieces. Most of my work is three-dimensional, colorful, and probably best described as a type of painting and collage!

For my academic tutoring students (ages 3-10), I always start with an assessment at our first meeting (typically 1-1.5 hours), followed by a discussion with their parent(s) or guardian to discuss results, goals, and next steps. From there, I'll begin creating a custom curriculum for your child to improve their skills and confidence.
For my private art lessons and portfolio coaching, I ask to see your past work and have an in-depth discussion of your art-related goals, experience, and interests at our first meeting. From there, I'll design a custom curriculum that meets your needs.
For both academic and art lessons/tutoring, I offer a two-week trial period to see if we're a good fit for each other. During this time, I recommend at least 2-3 sessions so you can get a strong sense of my teaching style and methods. After the trial period, if you decide you'd like to move forward with me, I offer lessons on a monthly or semester-long basis.
I've worked with a wide range of students for both art and academic tutoring, including:
-students as young as age 3 (typically ages 3-10)
-adult students
-college students
-students with ADHD and dyslexia
-students on the autism spectrum
-beginner and intermediate artists of all ages
Don't be afraid to ask your tutor or teacher lots of questions, and always try someone out for more than one lesson before you commit! If you're not a good fit, there's no shame in admitting it and finding someone who you really feel you could learn from and work with.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are you hoping to get out of tutoring or lessons? What are your goals?
What's your schedule? How often do you want to meet your teacher/tutor?
What is your budget? Can you commit to the same number of lessons every month?
Are you looking for group or individual lessons? Do you have a friend or two who might want to join?

Moriah worked with my four year old to help prepare her for kinder. They mostly worked on letters and numbers with a little art thrown in. My daughter absolutely loved lessons with Miss Moriah! She asked about her often in between lessons. As a parent, I really appreciated Moriah’s natural skill with kids, and I loved that she made the lessons fun for my daughter. I feel like my daughter is ready to go and will even be ahead of the pack when she begins reading. We love you, Miss Moriah!
Moriah creates a personalized approach to determine what the student is interested in and what they enjoy, and finds ways to incorporate that into her lessons. She makes them fun and educational.
You can tell that this is a subject Moriah is truly passionate about, and she shares that passion and energy with her students. You can see this in her interactions with students, and her love of art is reflected by the students themselves. This is someone who wants to share her love of art with her students and the world and pass on her knowledge and passion to her students.
Moriah was fantastic!! I took private art lessons with her over the summer, and I was shocked by how much better my painting and drawing skills were by the end. She did give me homework, but it was really helpful to try to practice what we’d worked on together. My favorite part was how flexible she was with the lessons. A few times I mentioned something specific I wanted to study or work on, and she incorporated it into our next lesson, which made it really fun and exciting to go to class. I plan to take a sculpture or multi-media collage class with her in the future!
