About Heidi

I have taught English to speakers of other languages for 12 years. I am licensed to teach ESL to students in kindergarten through 12th grade, and I have also taught adult English learners at the community college level. Learning a new language isn't easy, but I am a patient, encouraging, and knowledgable instructor eager to work with you!

I completed the teacher education program at Queens University. Later, I earned a master's degree in education from Wake Forest University.

I have been a public school teacher in North Carolina for 25 years. I have also taught for a private school and a community college.

About the lesson

I begin by assessing how much English the new student knows. If the student is conversant in English, I ask about his or her language goals. After determining an appropriate starting point, I tailor instruction to meet the student's needs.

elementary school students (kinder through 5th grade)

middle school students (6th through 8th grade)

high school students (9th through 12th grade)

adult students (community college)

Make sure that the teacher you hire listens to you carefully; offers feedback gently; and encourages you often.

A graduating senior invited me to a ceremony honoring "the teacher who most impacted your life". I had taught this student English when she was a kindergartner. That she looked me up so many years later meant the world.
